Interview Tips

You've got as far as an interview - how do you get one stage further? One of the most important things you can do before an interview is to prepare. More interviewees fail through lack of preparation than anything else.

Ensure you have enough information on both the company and the job before attending the interview - Enterprise Recruitment Limited can supply you with specific and relevant information for each job interview you attend. Have your questions prepared in advance - the position, technology, working environment, their plans for the future etc. If you’re interviewed by more than one person, don’t be afraid to ask the same questions again.

Think about the questions that are likely to be put to you. Why do you want the job? What skills and qualities would make you succeed in the role? Why are you leaving/have you left your current/last role? Think about past projects that may be relevant to the role. Be prepared to talk about them in detail. And practise giving them the answers!

Appearance is very important. You don’t have to look as if you’ve just stepped off the cat-walk, but it’s vital you show that you have made an effort and dress appropriately for the interview. If in doubt - dress smart rather than casual – darker colours preferred. Normally, men should wear suit and tie, while ladies should wear suits/jacket and skirt. Think about the whole effect – a common error is to look smart from the ankles up with unpolished, poorly heeled shoes! And believe us – these things do get noticed.

Body language is also important. Most of the following appear simple but are often over looked - just remember you’re there to make an impression.

        • Have a firm (but not too firm!) handshake
        • Appear interested, don’t yawn!
        • Maintain eye contact
        • Don’t talk with your hands
        • Sit up in your chair – don’t lean over the interviewer’s desk and don’t slouch back.
        • Feel free to accept a drink if offered
        • Don’t forget to switch off your mobile phone before the interview starts.

After the interview be sure to give us some feedback - we will talk to the companies and get their opinions too.
