A Software Engineer with experience across a wide variety of languages, (JavaScript / Node.js / Python mainly) to work in a small, fast-moving software development team responsible for developing breakthroughs for the UK’s IoT and data sharing movement. They will often develop projects where there is high technical risk, using very new ideas, and so an experimental and proactive attitude is essential.
This Software Engineer (JavaScript / Node.js / Python) would be responsible for hands-on architecture and software development for a variety of projects, ranging from rapid prototypes to production platforms and development of open source. You would join a team whose previous work involved projects like new large-scale infrastructure, such as a low-power wide-area network for IoT services, smart contracts on blockchain, or new ways to work with personal data. The software engineer will have both architectural and development responsibilities, working with product management, UX, devops, technologists and other teams.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL
• Strong experience with a variety of modern web development languages and frameworks including JavaScript, Node.js, Python
• Experience architecting data schemas across both SQL and NoSQL platforms
• Experience designing real-world REST APIs and microservices
- Any experience contributing to open source projects would be a plus.
- Excited by working with start-ups with an experimental and proactive attitude
As they will have a variety of projects, many collaborating with partners, there will be a variety of languages and stacks involved. Therefore they require someone who has a strong broad programming background, with specific expertise in modern web stacks and in particular Python and JavaScript. At times the role may involve diving into PHP, WordPress etc. A good collaborative attitude and sense of humour is essential.
