Description
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

 

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a proventrack record in full life cycle product design and development. You can expect to take a lead in designing a brand new product range of manual and automated electro-mechanical precision products for a company that do all their design and manufacturing on site. An appreciation of design for manufacture will be invaluable for the successful candidate. The position is challenging and varied and requires innovative thinking to turn ideas into successful products.

 

Responsibilities will include…
  • To design and realise cost-effective mechanical mechanisms for precision motion control and vibration isolation systems
  • Producing details of specifications and outline designs
  • Working with other professionals, within and outside the engineering team
  • Planning and overseeing the product development
Requirements…
  • Proven hands on experience of product design
  • A high level of technical knowledge and the ability to apply this to practical problems
  • Experience with 3D and 2D modelling software
  • Experience of producing high quality manufacturing drawings containing full tolerance and detailed finishing specifications
  • Experience with precision component design to micron level tolerances
  • Several years’ experience of full life cycle product design 
  •  Significant SolidWorks modelling experience of more than one year
 

Qualifications…

A good degree in mechanical engineering with masters or PhD preferred. Other candidates would be considered if they have significant experience with small precision mechanisms.

 

Desirable Skills and Experience…
  • Strong grasp of materials selection for a wide range of mechanical assemblies.
  • Design of precision complex mechanical assemblies with micron level fit tolerances.
  • Prototype assembly, evaluation, characterisation and testing experience. 
  • Knowledge of the photonics industry.
