- Description
- Mechanical Design Manager
Taking ownership of the Mechanical Design engineering team this strategic role will create structure and processes for future growth, whilst motivating and managing a talented team of design engineers.
The company is a leading player within their niche sector and has achieved impressive growth in a short space of time, with a vast array of low volume high value products. The potential for further expansion from a technology perspective is huge. This role will help them to evolve giving the team the clear guidance and confidence that is needed to take things to the next level.
Although you will have had a background of working as a design engineer this role is not a “hands on” design role. You will have technical specialists within your team to educate you on the products - what is important is having the experience and maturity to be able identify process improvements and eliminate mistakes happening throughout the design lifecycle.
Taking a proactive rather than reactive approach, you will need to be able to coach the team to encourage them to continue to design great products whilst helping them to understand new ways of working.
Working within a cross functional management team, you will receive the support that is needed to make improvements without some of the red tape that can be associated with large originations.
The business has a reputation for progression and staff training and development. Because of this it would be good if you have chartership or are working towards this with a view to then coaching and mentoring other team members to achieve this in the future.
For this role we are looking for:
- A proven background of working as a design engineer and then moving into a senior management role within this field.
- A well-rounded understanding of processes and compliance with the ability to lead and mentor teams of engineers.
- Ideally a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Line management experience.
- Experience of working with a mix of hi-tech hi-value products, this could be from a mix of different industries.
Salary for the role is completely dependant on experience.
