Location: Cambridge
Salary: £100,000 – £130,000 (maybe more!) + Equity + Benefits
This is an opportunity to step in at the very beginning of a fast-growing, well-backed technology company and take ownership of building out the software function. With significant investment already secured and rapid headcount growth underway, this role offers both immediate impact and long-term career upside.
The Role
You’ll first task will be help further grow your team, as well setting the direction for how software is developed and delivered across the business. That means shaping architecture, defining tools and processes, and getting hands-on with coding in the early stages. Over time, your focus will shift towards leading a dedicated team of engineers as the group expands.
Your work will span:
• Developing real-time embedded systems and ensuring they integrate seamlessly with hardware
• Introducing modern engineering practices, from testing frameworks to version control and automation
• Working closely with electronics and systems engineers to deliver high-reliability products
• Hiring, mentoring, and guiding a growing team of software specialists
About You
We’re looking for an ambitious engineer who’s ready to step into a leadership role. You’ll need to combine strong technical expertise with the drive to scale a new function inside a company that’s moving fast.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
• Deep experience with embedded C/C++ or Rust (RTOS, bare-metal, or similar environments)
• Familiarity with microcontrollers, SoCs, and low-level software development
• Some exposure to Python or similar tools for rapid prototyping and algorithm work
• A track record of technical leadership - whether through project ownership, architecture, or small-team leadership
