Description
This is a transformational role to be part of an innovative company that are leaders in fibre laser technology, designing and manufacturing all products under the same roof. This role will drive the optical development of next-generation fibre laser products through the full product development lifecycle, ensuring the requirements of all stakeholders are met.

As a Laser Development Engineer within the R&D Product Development team, you will take ownership of the optical development of new fibre laser products across the full product lifecycle. Reporting to the Principal Laser Engineer, you will work in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with significant influence over successful new product introduction.

You will play a central role in developing innovative fibre laser solutions in partnership with technology and manufacturing teams. The position involves building and evaluating prototype lab demonstrators, supporting verification and validation activities, and ensuring smooth transfer of new products and processes into manufacturing. You will also contribute to product failure investigations and provide clear reporting of technical progress within project teams.

This is a hands-on laboratory role requiring a strong grounding in laser physics and optical systems. You will enjoy practical optical development work and be comfortable translating engineering requirements into robust, working solutions. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring adaptability, initiative, and a methodical approach to delivering against changing priorities.

The company offers excellent opportunities for career growth and long-term development within the business. This is a workplace where you can see the tangible impact of your contributions, operating in a state-of-the-art facility with modern staff amenities and a supportive, collaborative environment.

Ideally, candidates will have:
  • A PhD in lasers, fibre optics, physics, or a closely related discipline
  • Hands-on laboratory experience
  • Experience working with optics, lasers, or similar applications
