- Description
Senior Systems Engineer – Ultrafast Laser Systems
If you’re motivated by hands-on work with ultrafast laser systems and want real influence over how high-performance photonic technology is developed and deployed, this is an opportunity to step into a senior, technically driven role within a specialist laser engineering business.
You’ll play a central role in architecting and delivering next-generation photonic processing platforms, combining deep experimental work with system-level ownership from early-stage R&D through to robust product delivery. This is a senior technical position with genuine responsibility, suited to someone comfortable leading complex engineering programmes from concept through to implementation.
Working across ultrafast laser sources, precision motion systems, adaptive optics, and vision-based feedback, you’ll ensure stable, high-accuracy system performance in demanding environments, while driving integration, optimisation, and scalability.
Essential experience
- Strong practical background with ultrafast or femtosecond laser systems
- Hands-on experience in photonics, precision instrumentation, or complex system integration
- Proven experience working with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Experience taking systems from development through to deployment or production
Desirable background
- PhD or MSc in physics, optics, or a related discipline
- Experience with precision motion control, adaptive optics, or machine-vision-enabled systems
- Exposure to photonic device fabrication, fibre or waveguide technologies, or high-accuracy metrology
Location: Oxford based, hands-on role with some flexibility
Salary: Up to ~£60K depending on experience
Benefits: Bonus, share options, private medical cover, enhanced pension, and professional development support
