- This unique role gives a Graduate or Junior Physicist the opportunity to develop technical skills in a highly advanced manufacturing environment, working with cutting-edge laser technology and gaining valuable hands-on experience in laser micromachining.
You will join a specialist team working on a wide range of customer applications, developing laser processes and producing precision components using state-of-the-art laser systems. The role offers an excellent opportunity to apply your academic knowledge of physics to real-world manufacturing challenges, while developing your understanding of lasers, materials, optics, process development, and advanced manufacturing.
As part of the Contract Micromachining Laboratory, you will work with laser systems covering wavelengths from UV through to IR and pulse durations ranging from nanoseconds to femtoseconds. You will be involved in developing new processes, carrying out production work and supporting customer projects, with laser micro-drilling forming a key part of the role.
The successful candidate will have a degree or MSc in Physics, Lasers, Optical Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline. Practical experience with lasers, optics, materials science, microscopy, metrology or programming would be advantageous, but this role is particularly suited to someone with a strong technical foundation who is keen to learn and develop.
You will need to be hands-on, curious and comfortable working in a technical environment. The ability to take ownership of your work, meet deadlines and work effectively both independently and as part of a team is important.
Requirements:
- Degree or MSc in Lasers/Physiscs/Optical Engienering or equivalent discipline.
