Description
Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Hybrid Working (3 days on-site, 2 days from home)

This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering business that is helping shape the future of clean energy technology. With over 400 employees and a number of significant long-term partnerships already in place, the business continues to invest heavily in both its technology and engineering capability. The projects are complex, technically challenging and often involve the development of first-of-a-kind systems, creating an environment where engineers can make a genuine contribution rather than simply maintaining existing designs.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll take ownership of the electrical design of advanced power generation and energy conversion systems. The role requires a strong electrical engineering background combined with the ability to manage large-scale engineering projects, working across multiple stakeholders to ensure technical, commercial and delivery objectives are achieved.

You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage concept development and system architecture through to design, validation, installation and commissioning activities. The work spans both AC and DC electrical distribution systems, requiring a practical understanding of real-world electrical engineering alongside strong theoretical knowledge. Rather than focusing on one small element of a project, you'll be able to influence overall system design and help solve complex engineering challenges.

The position also offers significant exposure to new technology development. Many projects have a strong research and development element, making it particularly well suited to engineers who enjoy innovation and are comfortable working in environments where requirements and solutions continue to evolve. You'll collaborate closely with systems, controls, power electronics and product development teams, helping to bring new technologies from concept through to deployment.

As a senior member of the team, you'll provide technical guidance across projects, review engineering work, manage technical risk and support key project activities with both internal teams and external partners. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer looking to take on greater responsibility whilst remaining heavily involved in technical delivery.

Key Skills & Experience

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline

• Strong experience designing electrical power systems

• Experience delivering electrical projects from concept through to implementation

• Knowledge of AC and DC distribution systems

• Experience with grid connection projects and power generation systems

• Electrical system design including cable sizing, protection devices and earthing design

• Experience working with PLCs, embedded controls, power converters and protection systems

• Understanding of electrical standards and regulations

• Experience reviewing electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation

• Knowledge of power system modelling tools such as ETAP, EPLAN, MATLAB or similar

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate large-scale engineering projects

• Hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills

• Experience within energy, power generation, renewables, industrial systems or other highly regulated engineering sectors would be advantageous
